Another Friday is upon us. However, this winter that also means another snow day at Rowan, and unless I am in dire need of food, I’m staying indoors. Unfortunately, I’ve almost completely exhausted my movie supply.

But if you’re willing to try new things (as well as itching to go outside), here are some skateboarding movie suggestions to look into.

1. Lords of Dogtown

Released in 2005, Lords of Dogtown is the story of a group of surfers that put together a skateboarding team (known as the Z-Boys). They get noticed by professional skateboarding teams, and the allure of fame and fortune tempts the skateboarders. The film is directed by Catherine Hardwicke, best known for directing Twilight. Lords of Dogtown also stars the late Heath Ledger. IMDb.

2. Gleaming the Cube

Moderately released in 1989, Gleaming the Cube is the story of a teenage skateboarder investigating into his adopted brother’s death, an apparent suicide. Filled with action and skateboarders, it is now a cult favorite among skateboarders and stars a young Christian Slater.

3. Thrashin’

Released in 1986, Thrashin’ is like the West Side Story of skateboarding. It shows the rivalry of two skateboarding gangs, “The Daggers” and “The Ramp LOCALS!” competing for supremacy over the other and things get hairy when one gang member falls in love for the sister of a rival gang member. It stars Josh Brolin, who has acted in such movies as The Goonies and W.

Fun Fact: Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk is in all three of these movies.
